Virdis Chemicals are proud to introduce our latest innovation: a specialised range of peroxide masterbatches designed to optimise polypropylene (PP) reprocessing and recycling. Developed alongside our core masterbatch portfolio, these peroxide-based solutions are engineered to enhance the melt flow index (MFI) of recycled PP – enabling smoother processing, improved product quality, and greater efficiency.
Why Use Peroxide Masterbatch for Polypropylene?
In PP recycling, controlling viscosity is key. Peroxide additives break down polymer chains, increasing MFI and making the material easier to extrude, mould, or compound. But using raw peroxide can be hazardous and inconsistent. That’s where masterbatch technology makes a difference.
Features & Advantages of Virdis Peroxide Masterbatches
- Safe Handling: Peroxide is encapsulated in a polymeric carrier, reducing exposure risks and improving workplace safety.
- Improved Dispersion: Masterbatch form ensures uniform distribution of peroxide throughout the polymer melt, avoiding hotspots and uneven degradation.
- Enhanced Shelf Life: Encapsulation protects the peroxide from moisture, heat, and oxygen – Ideal for storage and transport.
- Precise Dosing: Easy-to-meter pellets allow for accurate and repeatable dosing, ensuring consistent MFI results.
- Process Efficiency: Enables lower processing temperatures and faster cooling cycles, boosting throughput and reducing energy costs.
- Customisable Concentrations: Available in 2%, 5%, 10%, and 20% peroxide loadings to suit a wide range of recycling and compounding needs.

Tailored Peroxide Masterbatches for Every Process
Virdis Chemicals offers two distinct types of peroxide masterbatch – DHBP and BIBP – each optimised for different polypropylene processing conditions:
DHBP
Ideal for high-temperature applications, DHBP decomposes at around 170°C, providing:
- Controlled degradation for precise MFI adjustment in demanding extrusion or compounding processes
- Thermal stability, making it suitable for longer residence times and consistent performance
BIBP
With a lower decomposition temperature (~150°C), BIBP is perfect for faster or lower-temperature cycles, offering:
- Rapid activation, enabling shorter cycle times and improved throughput
- Energy efficiency, allowing for reduced processing temperatures and lower operational costs
Both options are available in concentrations of 2%, 5%, 10%, and 20%, giving you full flexibility to match your process and performance goals.
